Nintendo and Pokémon Co. are known for keeping their game developments and other projects under extremely tight wraps. While plenty of game companies work hard to keep their software and more a secret until they’re ready to reveal, Nintendo and Pokémon Co. are known for going a step further. That’s what makes today’s news that much more surprising.

Reports have come in stating that Game Freak has been the target an major hack, and that has led to all sorts of behind-the-scenes information making its way into the public eye. Test projects, source codes for Pokémon games, upcoming titles and more have all been laid out for the internet at large to see, showing just how devastating the situation is.

It cannot be stressed enough just how wide-ranging this leak is, as it literally includes breakdowns of cancelled projects, never-before-seen logos, user interface mock-ups and much more. This leak is chock-full of things that were never meant to see the light of day, at least not in this state or at this time.

As this was a hack, we will not be sharing the specifics of anything that has been leaked. We will also not share details that are sure to be gleaned in the days and weeks to come. If/when Nintendo or Pokémon Co. release a statement on the hack in any way, shape or form, we’ll make sure to share that with you.

UPDATE: Game Freak has acknowledged the hack in an official statement on their website. You can see a Google translation of the full statement below.

As much as I'm curious about seeing Pokémon that never saw the light of day, i can't say I'm a huge fan of leaking info about future projects or internal discussions at Game Freak. I really hope none of these projects get cancelled or changed as a result of this. I'm also definitely not a huge fan of leaking personal details of Game Freak staff past and present at the risk of doxxing.

I hope the person (or people) behind this stub their toe really hard, fall down the stairs and accidentàlly crap their pants on the way down.

It's honestly a bit tempting to find out what the next Pokemon games will be... but I hate hackers as much as I hate leakers, and I think I'll wait until this stuff is properly announced.

Welp. You talked about spoilers the other week… I guess we have to be prepared for a lot of it in relation to Pokémon. I love the rumor game actually, but it doesn't feel right that the info is being obtained via a nasty hack. sigh
