It’s an incredibly tumultuous time in the game industry right now, with numerous publishers and developers cutting projects and staff, as well as shutting down. Now rumor has it Bandai Namco is feeling the squeeze, which has led to some major changes at the company.

According to Bloomberg (h/t VGC), Bandai Namco has scrapped multiple projects, including games featuring licenses like Naruto and One Piece. Along with that, Bandai Namco has supposedly squashed a contract with Nintendo for a project as well.

A rep for Bandai Namco has commented on the matter, and you can see their full statement below.

“Our decisions to discontinue games are based on comprehensive assessments of the situation. Some employees may need to wait a certain amount of time before they are assigned their next project, but we do move forward with assignments as new projects emerge. There is no organization like an ‘oidashi beya’ at Bandai Namco Studios designed to pressure people to leave voluntarily.”

For those unaware, Oidashi Beya is a term for when Japanese corporations to isolate employees and give them literally nothing to do, hoping they will leave the company on their own accord, rather than being let go to receive severance.
