There’s been a long-standing myth that gaming is a male-dominated space. It’s a sentiment that continues to exist to this day, and might even be echoed more than ever, but now we have some cold-hard proof to show how wrong the claim is.

New data shared from Ipsos UK’s GameTrack, which commissioned a study via Video Games Europe, shows that 47% of Switch players in the United Kingdom are women. That’s an incredible split for the audience, and goes to show just how strong Nintendo is with female gamers. The thing is, the data gets even more impressive than that.

The results of the study also shows that that figure has doubled from what it was 5 years ago. In other words, just 5 years back the girl gamer Switch audience in the UK sat at roughly 23%. Looks like Nintendo has done an excellent job of marketing the Switch to women and also showing off the wide range of software available.

The studio also includes a breakdown of age brackets, which is as follows:

  • 15 to 24 year-olds account for 26%
  • 11 to 14 year-olds account for 19%
  • 25 to 34 year-olds account for 17%
  • 45 to 64 year-olds account for 8%

I lot of my friends who are women have picked up the Switch as the first console they've ever owned. I wonder what it is about the Switch that brought them over to gaming?

I remember my sisters picking a Switch up solely for Animal Crossing and the many other women in my life as well. It seems Animal crossing is very popular with women.

I love this. The more female gamers the better!

That's cool. The more people the better. Nintendo did amazing marketing with Switch showing it's for everyone.

But will the girls stay for Switch 2? Nintendo has to do some more great marketing, even better and more aggressive than with Switch to keep the momentum.
