We’re used to sharing news related to Nintendo securing trademarks for their games, but not quite like this.

As revealed by the Japan Patent Office’s public bulletin, Nintendo has filed 10 trademark applications related to Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Smash Bros., and Splatoon. The thing is, these trademarks aren’t actually related to new software, but instead hotel accommodations, food and beverages.

While it might not be the first thing Nintendo fans think of when trademarks pop up, there are certainly multiple reasons why Nintendo might be filing these trademarks. Nintendo is very much involved with the food and drink business nowadays, as they’ve partnered up with multiple companies for snacks, but they also serve up dishes at places like the Nintendo Museum and Super Nintendo World.

The hotel accommodations situation is a bit different, as that’s not an area Nintendo is currently involved in. You’d have to think this could be related to something with Super Nintendo World and Universal Studios in general, but that’s just pure speculation on our part. Hopefully we get to see what all these trademarks are for in the near future, and we’ll certainly keep our eyes peeled for new info.
