I think we can all be honest about Super Mario Land on the Game Boy. It’s not exactly Mario’s finest moment, but it’s still a darn fun game. It was also quite a mind-blowing experience back in the day, seeing as how it was a full-blown Mario outing on a portable. It might not have aged so well, but it certainly deserves a spot in Mario’s history and recognition from fans.

While Super Mario Land isn’t the best title in the plumber’s lineup, it still has legions of fans. One of those happens to be mico027, who wanted to pay tribute to the classic with a whole new approach. Rather than remaking Super Mario Land with better graphics or improved gameplay, he took on another timeless Mario adventure and remade it in the style of Super Mario Land.

If you ever wanted Super Mario Bros. to play, look and sound more like Super Mario Land, today’s your lucky today! As you can see in the video above, mico027 has gone through the painstaking process of taking the original Super Mario Bros. and reworking it in Super Mario Land style. For better or worse, it definitely looks like it’s faithful to Super Mario Land!

If you’d like to learn more about this project, you can find out details through the developer’s social media.

Thanks to CM30 for the heads up!

Tried this out, and sadly the game's physics are way off. This would have been a cool take on the game without the screen crunch that SMB Deluxe has on the GBC. But with the extremely incorrect physics, it just doesn't stack up.
