Indie developer Mango Factory, the studio behind the upcoming horror card battler Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter, is sharing updates on their anticipated project. A new gameplay trailer offers a glimpse into the action and confirms the game’s Kickstarter campaign, coming September 24th.
More about the game:
School Is In Session
Kumitantei: Old School Slaughter is an ode to retro anime and pop culture stylings of 1980s Japan. Combining the artistic inspirations of Rumiko Takahashi with Danganronpa’s narrative design, the game blends hand-drawn details and a twisted horror narrative. Begin the journey alongside sixteen high school students trapped in an apocalyptic bunker. As a class, you’re goaded toward grisly murder by a sadistic overseer, forced to participate in a deadly psychological experiment that may cost your life. Playing as the sheepish barista Himari Sanada, it’s your job to investigate these murders, earn the trust of your fellow students, and uncover the truth of your macabre capture.
Card Battle Combat
Progress through Kumitantei’s gruesome story by forging bonds, battling other students, and unraveling twisted mysteries. In this kill-or-be-killed scenario, the game’s trust system can offer unique leverage opportunities in combat. Spending time with fellow classmates and offering them appropriate gifts unlocks new talent cards and advantages in future card battles. These 1-on-1 battles are a hectic tug-of-war for influence; deal attacks with Debate cards, finding weaknesses in your opponent’s argument to grow your influence. As the battle progresses, present proper evidence against your opponent and strike with The Final Word to silence them. Additional talent cards are available to strengthen your gameplay, and high trust levels with other students may present advantages in battle.
Kickstarter Launching This Fall
Interested players can preview Kumitantei’s gameplay features in the latest trailer. Get a glimpse of the game’s characters, art style, and card battle mechanics, and witness the wrath of Kumitantei’s antagonist, Nyanus. The trailer also reveals more on the game’s Kickstarter; the campaign will launch on September 24th and conclude on October 22nd, and a demo of Kumitantei will be available for download during this time.
Gameplay Features
- Solve complex cases to discover the truth in an engaging murder mystery narrative.
- Encounter sixteen uniquely gifted students locked in a deadly psychological experiment.

Nintendo Unveils Sound Clock: Alarmo, an Interactive Alarm Clock Arriving Early 2025
Level Up Your Morning Routine
Ever wish that you could wake up in one of the playful worlds from Nintendo? Well, it’s time to stop dreaming! Introducing Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo – an interactive alarm clock designed to add some Nintendo charm to your home and your daily routine. Alarmo will be available at retail starting in early 2025 at a suggested price of $99.99 USD, and Nintendo Switch Online members in the U.S. and Canada can purchase it early via the My Nintendo Store right now!
Alarmo features motion sensor technology that responds to your movements, allowing you to snooze your alarm with motion alone and stop it by getting out of bed. Tailor your routine and make waking up fun by picking from 35 scenes inspired by five Nintendo titles – Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4 and Ring Fit Adventure – then set a time and let Alarmo handle the rest.
In the morning you’ll experience immersive sounds and music from the scene you picked. Rise to sounds of the Mushroom Kingdom with Mario and friends, begin your day’s adventure with Link and Princess Zelda, or start fresh with the Inklings from Splatoon 3. And those are just some of the experiences you can wake up to!
That’s not all – you can also check Records to see how much you move around in your sleep, set an hourly chime themed to your chosen title, and change between Steady or Gentle Modes for your morning alarm. In Steady Mode, the alarm will gradually get more intense the longer you stay in bed, whereas Gentle Mode offers a more consistent intensity level. There’s also Button Mode for a more traditional, tactile “hit the snooze button” alarm clock experience. You can even use sleepy sounds to wind down with soothing music and sounds at your set bedtime.
Plus, if you link your Nintendo Account you can download scenes from the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons games via free updates when they become available. For more insight into the development of Alarmo, be sure to check out the Ask The Developers interview on the Nintendo website, here.
Right now, only Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members in the U.S. and Canada can purchase Alarmo at My Nintendo Store. To sign up for either membership, or for more information about the special offers and benefits of each, visit https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online/. Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is also available at the Nintendo NY store, with no Nintendo Switch Online membership required for purchase.
Whether you’re looking to up your wake-up game, add a splash of Nintendo color to your home or just wind down with your favorite characters, Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is not just an alarm clock — it adds a bit of fun to your whole day.
Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund increases their stake in Nintendo to 8.26% (UPDATES)
Becoming the largest foreign shareholder
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has increased their stake in Nintendo to 8.26%, making them the largest foreign shareholder of the big red. This comes just two days after the PIF increased their stake to 7.08%, a move that could have been motivated by the recent decline in Nintendo’s stock prices following the latest financial results. The PIF is clearly confidence in the future prospects of Nintendo. They also have also increased their stake in EA and Take-Two Interactive from 5.1% to 5.8% and 5.3% to 6.8%, respectively. Nintendo themselves are the only ones now that own more shares than the PIF.
To avoid any confusion, this investment does not change anything in how Nintendo operates unless Nintendo themselves announces some changes due to an alliance like they did when they collaborated with DeNA.
UPDATE: Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, the vice chair of gaming division of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, has said they are considering further investment in Nintendo, but they are in no rush to do so. That said, if they were to make the move to increase their stake, Prince Faisal said it would be done in a “friendly” way.
UPDATE 2: Following comments from Prince Faisal, Savvy Games Group has said that they’re not just looking at upping their stake in Nintendo specifically, but Japanese game companies in general. Along with that, Savvy Games Group noted that Prince Faisal is not an official spokesperson for the Public Investment Fund.
UPDATE 3: CNBC is reporting that the PIF’s stake in Nintendo has actually dropped rather than risen. Previously the investment was at 8.58%, and now it sits at 7.54%.
